This march was composed by Maestro Oreste D'Alo, supposedly in Rosario, around 1925.
The 11th Line Infantry Regiment was created on November 8, 1814, according to a proposal made by General José de San Martín to the government, during the organization of the Army of the Andes and using as a core the Chile Auxiliaries, an infantry corps that under the command of then Lt. Colonel Juan Gregorio de Las Heras, had been sent to Chile in 1812, to support its Government Junta that was facing a royalist invasion in the South of the country.
The Auxiliaries first saw action in the Battle of Cucha Cucha, on February 23, 1814, and combated successfully again in Membrillar on May 20. After the major Spanish victory of Rancagua in October, they had to cover the retreat of their Chilean comrades and of their government to the city of Mendoza.
In 1815, the 11th Line Regiment had the first military regimental band of the Army of the Andes, thanks to the economic support of Don Rafael Vargas, a Mendoza rancher.
When moving on to Chile, the regiment crossed the mountains along the Uspallata pass, always under the command of de Las Heras. After assisting in the victory of Chacabuco, the Regiment headed the South Division and fought at night in the combat of Curapaligue on April 4 and the Battle of Gavilán on May 5, two outstanding victories. It also took part in the frustrated assault on Talcahuano, on December 6. On April 5, 1818, the 11th Line had a heroic role in the battle of Maipú, that sealed Chile's freedom.
Transported by sea, it disembarked in Peru on September 1820, and participated in the combats of Nazca, Acarí, Jauja and the siege and occupation of Lima on July 9, 1821, as well as the surrender of El Callao on September 21.
The 11th Line was disbanded in 1824. Recreated in 1865, it held frontier positions in the territories occupied by the indians in Tapalqué, Olavarría and Tres Arroyos, Province of Buenos Aires.
In 1910, the President of Argentina, Dr. José Figueroa Alcorta decreed that it would be named 11th Infantry Regiment "General Las Heras" in honor of its illustrious first commander. Currently, the 11th Mountain Infantry is based in Tupungato, Province of Mendoza.
