22. Abolition of Carnival festivities, 1844. The Governor of Buenos Aires, Juan M. Rosas, issued a decree where article 1° ordered: “Carnival festivities are hereby abolished and banned for ever”. The second article established that offenders would be condemned to three years of forced labor and, if they were public employees, they would further be “deprived of their jobs”.

27. By royal warrant, Spanish King Charles III expelled the Jesuits from all the territories of his realm, 1767. In the city of Buenos Aires 289 Jesuits were gathered to be shipped to Cadiz and from there deported to Italy. With the aim of enforcing such order, the king sent in advance Francisco de Paula Bucarelli, a sworn enemy of the Jesuits, with special powers to enforce the royal warrant.
27. General Manuel Belgrano has the Argentine flag raised for the first time, 1812. At the time of dedicating two artillery batteries close to Rosario, Province of Santa Fe, that were built with the purpose of blocking navigation on the Paraná river for the Spanish fleet based in Montevideo, he had a “white and pale blue flag” raised “according to the colors of the national cockade” and those present swore allegiance to it.
27. Brazilian forces disembark in Villarino, Eastern Bank, currently the Republic of Uruguay, 1827. Part of the crew of a Brazilian squadron formed by four ships disembarked in this port, located on the Negro river, where the Argentine squadron had supply depots. The attackers launched a fierce assault, but were defeated and made prisoners. Their ships were also captured.
27. The British are defeated by the Boers at the Battle of Majuba, South Africa, 1881.

27. The Reichstag fire is engineered by the Nazis, Hitles subsequently suspends all civil liberties and the freedom of the press, 1933.

28. The Board of Representatives (the legislative power) of the Province of Santa Fe declared Captain General Justo J. de Urquiza Liberator of the Argentine People, because of his victory over Juan M. Rosas in the Battle of Caseros, 1852. Two years previously, the same Board had issued a decree recognizing merits to the now defeated dictator and urging him to continue with his work of government.
